Trichomonas infection occurs mainly during unprotected sexual contact with an infected person. Infection can also result from the joint use of personal items such as underwear, towels without proper hygiene rules. Trichomonas can survive for several hours on their surface and is a real, though rare, threat also in public places such as toilets, saunas or swimming pools. Until the end of treatment and the disappearance of symptoms, sexual abstinence is recommended, after this time you can have intercourse. Young sexually active women are recommended to re-test for vaginal trichomonas 3 months after the end of therapy.
