A 2.5-year-old daughter due to constipation takes dicopeg junior. She developed contagious lichen on her face around her mouth and the pediatrician prescribed mupirox ointment. After reading the leaflet, I noticed that the ointment should not be used with other drugs containing macrogol. Should we ask for another ointment? Is the amount absorbed so small that we can use it?

According to my knowledge, you can use Mupirox ointment and Dicopeg Junior on your child at the same time and it will be a safe solution. According to the manufacturer, Dicopeg Junior containing macrogols with a molecular weight of approx. 3500-4000 after oral administration is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Mupirox contains macrogol, which in turn can be absorbed through open wounds or damaged skin and then excreted through the kidneys. Therefore, there is no way that Dicopeg Junior given orally will also be absorbed through the wound around the face. Of course, you can always consult a doctor on this matter or replace Dicopeg Junior for the duration of treatment with Mupirox, for example lactulose in syrup. If it is not possible to visit a stationary one, I encourage you to use the teleadvice offered, m.in. by the Gdziepolek.pl portal: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja Through the portal, you can compare the prices of a drug or other preparation available without a prescription in online pharmacies and order the drug with home delivery or collection at the pharmacy.
