Does Triderm damage hearing?

Does triderm ointment damage hearing?? Because the otolaryngologist recommended me to lubricate in the ear outside on top.

The gentamicin contained in triderm ointment exhibits ototoxic defined as transient or permanent dysfunctions of the inner ear after exposure to the drug, causing hearing and / or balance disorders. Excessive or prolonged use of gentamicin can lead to damage to hearing and kidneys. For this reason, please apply the ointment only to the outer parts of the ear, apply a thin layer of the drug for as short a period of time as possible.
