Burning and itching after the application of Mupirox ointment is a very common side effect of this drug, if it passes after a few minutes you should not worry about it. Usually, the drug is not used for more than 10 days, and after 5 days there should be a visible improvement, but you should always follow the doctor's recommendations when dosing this preparation.
