Is the question why does Escitalopram make you sick? If so, please read on. Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) and nausea is one of the most common side effects associated with drugs in this group. Escitalopram not only increases serotonin levels in the brain, but it affects serotonin receptors in the digestive tract. A large part of serotonin in the body is found in the digestive system, where it plays a role in regulating intestinal motility. Increasing serotonin levels can stimulate receptors in the stomach and intestines, leading to nausea. If the symptoms associated with nausea do not subside, or even worsen - please consult your attending physician.
