Hello. For over a week now, I've been taking an iron supplement once a day (I have anemia). For the first few days I felt good, but for two days I started to feel side effects such as lower abdominal pain. The pain does not last long, it passes when I eat something. I have a question, why only after more than a week I got a side effect and how to prevent it Thanks in advance for your answer

Not always the side effects of using the preparation with iron appear from the very beginning, sometimes we notice the problem only as in your case after a few days. Iron is best taken 30-60 minutes before meals, but if side effects appear then it is usually recommended to use iron immediately after a meal or reduce the dose. In addition to abdominal pain, a feeling of metallic aftertaste, nausea, bloating, constipation, diarrhea or vomiting is also possible. You used the word "supplement", or was this preparation recommended by your doctor, based on the test results? Did not recommend any prescription drug with iron? Sometimes extended-release forms are better tolerated by patients.
