Can carbamazepine or sodium valproate cause infertility?

Yes, in most cases, fertility problems go away a few months after stopping the drug.
Thank you very much for your reply. Do I understand correctly that in women, fertility problems caused by sodium valproate or carbamazepine tend to disappear after discontinuation of these drugs?

Yes, carbamazepine and vaproate have an effect on fertility. Carbamazepine in rare cases may cause a decrease in sperm motility and count. "Women using valproate have been reported to have amenorrhea, polycystic ovary syndrome and elevated testosterone levels. Taking valproate can also impair fertility in men. Fertility problems in some cases are transient at least 3 months after stopping treatment. The limited number of cases described suggests that a significant reduction in dose may positively affect fertility. However, in some other cases, the reversibility of male infertility was unknown."
