Could I harm my baby if I breastfed them after using Dostinex?

Good morning. The gynecologist prescribed me to LOWER the lactation of Dostinex. I struggled with hyperlactation and constant inflammation of one breast. The doctor did not warn me that I should not feed for a few days and fed normally. I still have less milk. What effects can there be on the child? I took 2 tablets 2 weeks ago, I was feeding all the time and I am still feeding my daughter, but I am afraid that it could harm her, and the doctor did not tell me anything...

Dostinex is indeed not the drug of choice for women who want to continue breastfeeding while reducing lactation. The drug is excreted in milk and its effect on the children's body has not been studied, therefore, it is recommended to stop breastfeeding during treatment. However, the literature data show that although cabergoline (Dostinex) is classified as a high-risk drug, no side effects have been reported so far in children breastfed by mothers taking the drug. The half-life of the drug is about 68 hours, after about 15-16 days after the last dose it can be assumed that the drug is no longer in plasma, and thus also in milk. After 14 days, traces of cabergoline can be expected in breast milk. Whether the medicine may have affected your child's health depends on a number of factors – m.in the age of the child and the frequency of breastfeeding in the first days after administration, when exposure to the medicine is highest. If you have observed disturbing symptoms, it is worth consulting a pediatrician. To @Rewianka: If you took the drug 2 weeks ago, the peak of action "is already behind us". If you are still breastfeeding, there is no risk that the drug will stop lactation.

Thank you very much for your reply. My daughter did not have any symptoms, but when I visit the doctor, I will inform about the drug I took. Is there still a risk that this drug will stop my lactation? I still feed, but the food is obviously less than before taking dostinex. I wonder if this lactation will slow down even more or is it already the maximum what effect of dostinex has achieved? Yours sincerely.
