Good morning, the doctor prescribed my child Dicortineff for strongly red eyes. On the leaflet it is written: "The preparation is contraindicated for use if there is: fungal, tuberculous or viral eye infection". How can we be sure that it is a bacterial and not a viral eye infection? The doctor did not check it carefully. Should I give this medicine?

Bacterial infection is the most common cause of eye inflammation (especially in children), hence Dicortineff is usually a first-line drug. Symptoms of bacterial inflammation are: discharge (pus), reddened both eyes, lack of itching. The doctor on the basis of a physical examination determines the possible cause of infection. The information that the drug should not be used in fungal, tuberculous or viral eye inflammation is intended to make you aware that in such cases the drug will not work and another solution will be necessary. Please use the medicine as directed by your doctor, if you will not be on the right after about 3 days you should return to a specialist. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-szybko-wyleczyc-zapalenie-spojowek
