Yellow stool when using preparations with monacolin - what to do?

On 27.11.22 I implemented ArmoLipid and 08.12.22 (only 11 days later) cholesterol dropped to: total 4.77 (down from 6.57), LDL 2.78 (down from 4.38), HDL 1.32 (down from 1.28), non-HDL 3.45 (down from 5.28). I also did liver tests just in case: AST 23 (up from 18), ALT 36 (down from 38), GGTP 31 (down from 37) plus I did Lipase 17, Amylase 45, TSH 3,520, FT3 3,36, FT4 1,38, antiTPO 11,20, antiTG 15,60, CA19,9

I discontinued ArmoLIPID, after two days cholesterol increased to 5.03 and after a week to 5.50, while LDL after two days did not change and after a week also increased to 3.61. I mean, the effect of ArmoLipid is very short-lived.

The results of the tests should be consulted with the general practitioner. The manufacturer of the dietary supplement does not inform that supplementation should be discontinued before the blood cholesterol test. The monacolin contained in the said preparation has a mechanism of action analogous to statins contained in medicinal products available with a doctor's prescription, in the case of which discontinuation of the drug before the cholesterol test is not advisable, hence it can be concluded that taking the supplement 12 hours before the test did not have a significant effect on the result of cholesterol determination. Yellow discoloration of the stool is a symptom that should be consulted with a general practitioner. It may have various causes, m.in disorders of the pancreas or liver. It is worth mentioning here that under the European Union Regulation of June 22, 2022, all preparations containing monacolin K in an amount greater than 3 mg in a single dose were withdrawn from pharmacies. This decision was made based on the available information on the side effects of monacolin, the main ingredient in Armolipid. In patients using this substance at a dose of 3 mg or more, serious side effects related m.in to muscle breakdown (rhabdomyolysis), hepatitis or skin diseases that required hospitalization have been reported. For safety reasons, there is a warning on the supplement label saying that it is recommended to consult a doctor before starting use. If during use the patient has any doubts about safety, the advice of a general practitioner should be sought who, after analyzing the test results and comparing with previous tests, will decide whether supplementation is necessary and safe in this case. If the doctor decides to continue using the preparation, I encourage you to use the link below, through which you can compare the prices of Aromolipid in individual pharmacies and make a purchase in one of them: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/7116/armolipid-tabletki/apteki
