My 5-year-old son is assigned ephedrine powders for tonsillectomy. I would like to ask if they can be served in the morning before breakfast? The son goes to kindergarten and eats breakfast in the institution and the medicine must be given at home

In general, powders with ephedrine are best given to the child from the morning. This substance, in addition to the decongestant effect, reducing the secretion of mucus, can also (but does not have to) have a stimulating effect. However, I do not recommend administering the powder on an empty stomach. In its composition, in addition to the active substance, there is probably sugar as a bulking substance, correcting the taste and facilitating the preparation of powders in the right dose (these are the general rules for the preparation of powders "According to art"). Sweet taste on an empty stomach can cause nausea, soreness. In addition, ephedrine itself can cause irritation of the stomach. So it is better to give your son something small to eat, e.g. a small sandwich and only then give the medicine. You can also give it, for example, together with yogurt (sprinkle on a teaspoon), or simply into the mouth where it will dissolve.
