Mucosolvan contains ambroxol, a mucolytic substance that leads to an increase in the amount of secretion, its liquefaction, and thus used in wet cough. One of the components of Actifed is dextromethorphan, a drug that typically inhibits the cough reflex, used in dry cough. The combination of these two drugs in the described way, i.e. Mucosolvan and Actifed in the morning, is definitely contraindicated. This can lead to liquefaction of the secretion with the simultaneous lack of expectoration, which can lead to bacterial superinfection. Antitussive syrup is sometimes used along with an expectorant. However, it is given only at night, in case of a strong cough that hinders sleep, and not along with an expectorant during the day. I suggest contacting your doctor to check the correctness of the dosage.
