Good morning, after picking up the Lantus Solostar and Humalog insulin pack from the pharmacy, I stored it (unopened) at room temperature for about 20 hours before placing it in the refrigerator. Will insulin no longer be usable after this time?

The general rule of storage of insulin is: 1. Unopened packages should be stored at a temperature of 2-8 degrees (refrigerator). They are also stored in a pharmacy. You can then store the insulin until the expiration date on the package. 2. Open packages and those taken out of the refrigerator for a long time, i.e. your case should be stored for up to 4 weeks - already at room temperature. We don't put it back in the fridge anymore. The manufacturer defined only such storage conditions as not affecting the action of insulin and its 100% effectiveness. Both overheating and freezing insulin harms insulin and deactivation may occur (it ceases to perform its function). Insulin under other storage conditions will most likely not stop working completely, but it can reduce its potency and control sugar incorrectly.
