Cortiment MMX is a glucocorticosteroid used to treat inflammatory bowel disease. Budesonide - the active substance in Cortiment MMX inhibits many of the processes associated with inflammation. Glucocorticosteroids, including Budesonide, may inhibit the activity of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis and reduce the stress response. When patients undergo surgery or other stressful situations, additional administration of general glucocorticosteroids is recommended, as Cortiment MMX may be less effective.
