I have been taking Vines contraceptive pills for about 2 years, I am finishing taking the second week. I got a cold and today I took 2000mg of vitamin C at a time. Will the effectiveness of the tablets be reduced and do I have to protect myself additionally? All previous tablets were taken correctly and at the same time. I will add that I took the first vitamin C 1000mg tablet at 10 o'clock and the second tablet at 19 o'clock and at 20 o'clock contraceptive pill.

In this case, it is worth taking extra care, because the data on the interaction between vitamin C and the estrogen derivative of contraceptive pills are not conclusive. Vines tablets consist of two substances: gestodene - the so-called progesterone derivative and ethinylestradiol - i.e. estrogen derivative. Information can be found indicating that vitamin C in doses above 1000 mg can affect the concentration of the latter fraction. However, the data is not convincing, and other works exclude the possibility of such an interaction. You can read more about the drugs that affect the action of contraceptive pills here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jakie-leki-oslabiaja-skutecznosc-antykoncepcji. For my part, I will also pay attention to studies that have indicated that our body can absorb about 400 - 500 mg of vitamin C at a time, hence the use of such large doses as described once is not justified. I also draw attention to the possibility of supporting the immune system with plant preparations, such as elderberry (the description of example preparations can be found here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jaki-preparat-z-czarnym-bzem-wybrac-analiza), or purple coneflower (example preparations and description can be found here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/substancje/jezowka-purpurowa). I wish you a speedy recovery
