Hearing damage after local application of the drug is rare - the literature speaks of 1 case in 3000-10000 uses. If hearing deterioration is not noticed, then there is no cause for concern. Nevertheless, whenever there is a safer alternative to a potentially harmful drug, its use should be considered - hence my answer to the original question.
I gave these drops to a child (14 months) in the eyes. But due to the problem in administration, some of the drops flowed down the child's face, including straight into the ear. I usually needed 3 to 10 drops for 1 drop to finally reach the eye. Unfortunately, the leaflet did not warn to be careful when applying :( How likely is it to damage your hearing in this case?
thank you very much for your reply

Biodacin Ophtalmicum drops are not intended for use in the ears due to possible toxicity to the hearing organ, especially if they are applied to potentially damaged skin. The risk of toxicity is the greater the longer the duration of therapy and the higher the dose of the drug, but in my opinion in your case it is possible to choose another antibiotic with a better safety profile, especially if the infection is mild and does not require intravenous treatment (in the case of severe otitis externa, requiring hospitalization, it is allowed to administer amikacin, i.e. a component of Biodacyna Ophtalmicum drops). I encourage you to consult your doctor again. It can also be arranged via GdziePoLek: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/telekonsultacja/
