Long-term use of drugs from the group of proton pump inhibitors is not indicated because it can, m.in, mask the symptoms of stomach cancer and delay its diagnosis. According to the manufacturer of one of the drugs in this group: "In the event of alarming symptoms (e.g. significant, unintentional weight loss, recurrent vomiting, difficulty swallowing, bloody vomiting, anemia or tarry stools) and suspicion or confirmation of a stomach ulcer, the possibility of a cancerous nature of the disease should be excluded. If, despite proper treatment, symptoms persist, further diagnosis should be considered." Long-term use of drugs from this group also increases the risk of developing benign polyps of the bottom of the stomach. Larger polyps can give symptoms such as bleeding, the presence of blood in the stool, anemia, uncharacteristic abdominal pain or even obstruction of the pylorus of the stomach. If you observe this type of symptoms, you should consult a gastrologist. As for antacids, such as Manti - here, too, chronic intake is not recommended. Doing so can lead to problems with the digestion of food, which results in the occurrence of flatulence, gases. It also increases the risk of inflammation and infection with the bacterium Helicobacter pylori. Both PPIs and Manti antacids should be used as briefly as possible. If you do not observe improvement or the ailments recur - the diagnostics should be expanded.
