My colleague has ChAD and is currently undergoing a depressive episode. The psychiatrist prescribed him a parogen and this is the only drug he is supposed to use. My knowledge of pharmacotherapy of mental disorders is only cursory, but is this the right thing to do? Shouldn't he also get some normothymic drugs?

In case of doubt about the proposed treatment, it is recommended to consult the attending physician again. Currently, the treatment of bipolar disorder consists in administering normothymic drugs in a permanent or long-term way. Depending on the episode in which the patient is located, other preparations are additionally used, such as Parogen. Which drugs will be used in a particular patient depends on the m.in of their response to the proposed treatment. Perhaps your colleague is also using other medications that you did not tell you about.
