Preparations differ in composition and indications for use. Vicks complex contains 500 mg of paracetamol, 200 mg of guaifenesin and 10 mg of phenylephrine hydrochloride. Indications for use are short-term, temporary relief of symptoms such as mild to moderate pain, fever, nasal congestion, productive cough (so-called wet cough), associated with colds, chills and flu. Vicks Max contains 1000 mg paracetamol, 5.58 mg phenylephrine hydrogen tartrate, 4 mg chlorphenamine maleate. Indications for use are symptomatic treatment of colds and flu, proceeding with fever, weak or moderate pain (eg headache, throat, muscles, paranasal sinuses), swelling of the nasal mucosa and paranasal sinuses with the formation of secretions.
