To @Adam: there are no formal restrictions on the family doctor prescribing Xanax. However, he does not have to do it only "at the request of the patient". For example, he may first refer him to a psychiatrist so that a specialist can assess whether the use of this drug is justified. Because it has addictive potential, it may not be the drug of first choice without recognizing the cause of anxiety disorders.
