Icelandic lichen (Cetraria islandica) has primarily a coating and moisturizing effect, but also bacteriostatic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. Most often it is used for infections of the upper respiratory tract, with sore throat, hoarseness, dry cough. Responsible for the action are: - polysaccharides (lichenin, isolichenin) - lichen acids (fumaric, cetraric, fumaroprotocetraric, protolichesterine) - galactomannans, glucuronic acid, mucus, cellulose, B vitamins and mineral salts. In addition, Icelandic lichen has a digestive, antiemetic, appetite-increasing and immunostimulating effect. Icelandic lichen can be found in many products used for ailments related to the dryness of the mucous membranes: in sprays, syrups, lozenges, e.g. Fiorda, Isla. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/bol-gardla
