The size of the needle you gave ("5") is not correct, so it is difficult to assess what kind of needle exactly you are talking about and whether it was well chosen. In case of doubt, it would be best to contact the person who performed the injection directly. The needles are available in different sizes and lengths. To the best of my knowledge, needles with a diameter of 0.8–0.9 mm, sometimes 0.7 mm, are most often used for intramuscular injections.
