Hello, can rovamycine antibiotic, which I take on toxoplasmme, also help ureaplasme bacteria? I read that the drug is "moderately resistant" so there is a possibility that it will help? And can the swab in her direction be false negative due to taking rovamycin?

The drug Rovamycine contains in its composition the macrolide antibiotic spiramycin. There is a possibility that this antibiotic will be effective in treating infection with the bacterium Ureaplasma urealyticum. However, this requires achieving a sufficiently high concentration of antibiotic inside the cells, which is not always possible. Studies are available showing that this bacterium is characterized by high resistance to this antibiotic, hence spiramycin is not the drug of first choice for the treatment of infection with this bacterium. The general rules say that during antibiotic therapy, the collection of material for microbiological examination should not be performed, although each time the attending physician may make a different decision based on the occurring / persistent symptoms. The bacterium Ureaplasma urealyticum lives intracellularly, therefore the result of the bacteriological examination of urine taken by the traditional method is negative, hence the need to perform a cervical smear. Choosing the method itself is also crucial to obtain a clinically relevant result. The highest sensitivity and reliability in this case is characterized by the PCR method, which allows to confirm or exclude the presence of the pathogen. Due to the features of the bacterium Ureaplasma urealyticum, cell culture methods or microscopic preparation do not work in its case.
