Good morning, I have doubts whether I can instead of (as a substitute) Ozempic 1 mg taken 1 x week (which is not available) take the prescribed by the general practitioner Rybelus tbl 14 mg taken daily. It is not possible to contact a doctor and I have doubts whether these 14 mg tablets are the same as Ozempic 1 mg in a pen. I will be grateful for a quick reply. Sincerely Jolanta Więckowska mail jola.w1@op.pl

In response to the great interest of patients, a non-reimbursed drug Ozempic from parallel imports appeared in pharmacies. The availability of the drug in pharmacies can be checked here: Ozempic 0.5 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275329 Ozempic 1 mg https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/99258/ozempic-iniekcja/apteki?pvid=275351

Ozempic and Rybelsus contain the same chemical, semaglutide. Rybelsus 14 mg tablets do not exactly match Ozempic 1 mg. An oral dose equivalent to 1.0 mg semaglutide administered subcutaneously has not been established. According to the manufacturer's information, the exposure after oral administration of semaglutide 14 mg once daily is comparable to the exposure of semaglutide administered subcutaneously at a dose of 0.5 mg once a week. Clinical studies show that oral administration of semaglutide may be associated with lower bioavailability of the drug compared to subcutaneous administration. For this reason, it is not possible to clearly determine what dose administered orally will exactly correspond to the subcutaneous dose of 1 mg. There are reports showing that there is no statistical difference in efficacy between oral semaglutide 14 mg and weekly subcutaneous semaglutide 1.0 mg after 26 weeks of use. However, it was noted that subcutaneous administration led to a greater decrease in glycated hemoglobin compared to oral administration. To ensure the high effectiveness of the drug Rybelsus I would like to pay attention to its correct dosage. It is recommended to swallow the oral semaglutide tablet whole, on an empty stomach, washed down with water (about half a glass of water) and wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other oral medications on that day. Failure to follow these recommendations may lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of therapy.
