Yes, there is a possibility of weight loss, but this will not be the main effect of using the drug. Amaryl is not a cure for obesity, m.in to lower sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes. However, improved diabetes control is associated with greater insulin sensitivity, and greater insulin sensitivity also helps to shed excess body weight. Please remember that no drug (even those typically used in obesity) will cause the body weight to fall on its own and not return to its original state. The key issue here are our eating habits and physical activity, and very often also the psychological aspect (eating stress, emotions - both bad and good). If a change in the patient's weight or lifestyle occurs, it may be necessary to change the dosage of the drug so that it does not increase the risk of hypoglycaemia.
