Currently, there is no diagnostic method that would be able to 100% exclude Lyme disease infection. The basis for the diagnosis of borreliosis remains clinical manifestations. The results of the Lyme disease test will be affected by antibiotics. If the patient underwent antibiotic therapy at the initial stage of infection (e.g. erythema migrans has been diagnosed), the production of antibodies may be weakened. Then the result may be a false negative. A false negative result is a situation where the test result indicates the absence of antibodies in the blood (negative result) - while the patient has an infection.
