Saxenda does not directly cause a drop in blood glucose (sugar drop). Liraglutide contained in the preparation stimulates insulin secretion, but in response to a meal, and this type of mechanism of action is not associated with a high risk of hypoglycemia. A score of 66 mg/dL can be due to a number of reasons m.in what glycemic index the meal had and when exactly it was eaten, what other meals during the day looked like, whether alcohol was consumed or whether physical activity took place. In the case of eating a meal with a high glycemic index, e.g. pasta with strawberries, there may first appear a large increase in glycemia (40 - 60 min. after a meal), and then a large decrease, even to a level lower than before eating in the range of 70-80 mg / dL. Therefore, it is recommended to add protein and fat to meals to avoid this type of situation. If Saxenda is combined with other antidiabetic drugs. (insulin, sulphonylureas) - then the risk of hypoglycemia actually increases, i.e. too low blood sugar levels due to the drugs used. I will only add that after one result from the glucometer it is difficult to draw conclusions about the causes of too low blood sugar levels - there could be many of them.
