Can thrombocytopenia be caused by a poor diet?

Good evening. I am 22 years old. I have just received a repetition of blood tests that showed thrombocytopenia. I'm afraid it's cancer because my grandfather died of blood cancer. The study showed 109 tiles and the norm is from 140. Does this situation have any connection or through my poor diet (I eat a lot of fast food and meals I eat irregularly through work) it can be a deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid? Thank you in advance for your reply.

Insufficient platelet production can be caused by deficiencies of vitamin B12 or folic acid, but it can also have a number of other causes, such as - among others - liver disease, immune disorders, some infections, the use of certain medications, contact with toxins, bone marrow diseases. Unfortunately, it is impossible to answer unequivocally whether in your case the cause is diet. However, you can perform a laboratory test to determine the level of vitamin B12 and folic acid to see if you suffer from their deficiencies. The result indicating a low level of platelets should be discussed with the doctor - he may order additional tests and / or refer you to a haematologist (specialist in blood diseases).
