The use of Dionelle in people with diabetes mellitus is not contraindicated. The case in which Dionelle should not be used is the occurrence of diabetes with vascular complications, because then there is a greater risk of thromboembolic disorders. According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, combined hormonal contraceptives may have an effect on peripheral insulin resistance and glucose tolerance, but there is no evidence to support the need to change the established antidiabetic therapy in women taking combined hormonal contraceptives containing a low dose of estrogen (
