Good morning, I have been taking ospen 1500 for 3 days, and for 2.5 years regularly Vixpo tablets. Do these two drugs interact? If so, may I ask which component of Ospen may reduce the effectiveness of contraception? Thank you for your help.

The active substance in Ospen, the antibiotic Phenoxymethylpenicillin, may disrupt the composition of the bacterial flora in the gut, which is necessary for converting the hormones contained in birth control pills into active forms, which may limit their absorption from the tablets into the blood and thus their effectiveness. It is recommended to use an additional method of contraception, e.g. condoms, during the course of treatment and 7 days after its completion.
