Persistent erection problems and long-term use of sildenafil should be consulted with a urologist or sexologist. You should be aware that erection problems have causes that can and should often be treated. Sildenafil does not cure these causes, only symptoms. Long-term use of sildenafil without consulting a doctor may cause the untreated cause of the disorder to worsen over time, and the drug itself may stop working or higher doses will be necessary. In principle, however, at the pharmacological level, sildenafil does not cause impotence and is not associated with the risk of developing tolerance.
