There are no clear guidelines known to me as to what discontinuation of the drug should look like and whether something can happen if we discontinue it too quickly. It all depends on the situation in which the patient is. If the drug causes bothersome, dangerous side effects - it is worth reporting this to the doctor and as soon as possible decide to change the treatment or discontinue the drug. It may then be advisable to abruptly stop the drug, because it is safer than exposure to further ailments. The situation is different when the patient has been using the drug for a long time, has achieved therapeutic goals and plans to start discontinuing the drug. This can then be done gradually. Most often, unfortunately, many patients who have not changed their eating habits and lifestyle during treatment, after discontinuation of the drug gain weight and worsen the results regarding, for example, glycemia. This is the most common effect of drug withdrawal. Each case is different, so it is best to consult the doctor who prescribed this drug. I leave a link to a video that may interest you:
