Good morning, the psychiatrist prescribed me escitil 20mg in the morning and tricito cr 150mg for the night, but after reading the leaflet I am afraid to take the medication because I am afraid that serotonin syndrome will occur or is such treatment safe? please reply

Serotonin syndrome is a very rare complication, but its risk increases if two substances that affect the serotonin economy are used. Concomitant use of escitalopram (the active ingredient in Escitil) with trazodone (the active ingredient in Trittico) may increase the risk of heart syndrome and/or side effects (slow heart rate, arrhythmias). This does not mean, however, that such a complication will definitely occur. If the doctor recommends such a combination, the patient should be monitored (e.g. by performing an ECG or observing possible symptoms of serotonergic syndrome). If you have any doubts, it is best to consult a doctor directly. It is possible that he is aware of the potential interaction, but he believes that such a combination is optimal and has a risk control plan.
