Studies on the impact of the consequences of pregnancy by women using an intrauterine device have shown an increase in the risk of the following complications: - preterm birth -14.3% of women who had an intrauterine device removed had preterm birth, for comparison, in women without an IUD, the rate of premature birth is 6.8%, - bacterial infection (inflammation of the fetal membranes) - nearly 5% of women who removed the IUD developed a bacterial infection, in women without an IUD this phenomenon affects 0.6% of pregnant women, - low birth weight - 11.3% of women who had the IUD removed gave birth to children with low birth weight, for comparison in women without an IUD this phenomenon affects 6.6%, - perinatal mortality - this phenomenon affects 2% of women who have removed the IUD, in women without an IUD this phenomenon affects 0.5% of pregnant women. It is worth being aware that these consequences may occur, but they will not occur in every woman. Provided that you are under the constant supervision of a doctor and follow his recommendations, the fact of becoming pregnant while using the IUD may not have a negative effect on the fetus.
