If Propranolol inhibits the conversion of T4 to T3, can it be used with Euthyrox for Hashimoto's disease?

Good morning. I am taking Euthyrox because of Hashimoto's disease. Recently, a cardiologist recommended me Propranolol for increased pressure. I read that Propranolol can inhibit the conversion of T4 to T3. Is this really the case and will the drug not adversely affect the treatment with Euthyrox in this situation? Can Propranolol be combined with Sorbifer Durules?

Perhaps on the basis of the interview and the tests carried out, the doctor combined increased pressure or other symptoms with hyperthyroidism. Then Propranolol is indicated, which through its biological action causes, m.in, slowing down the heart rate, limiting tremor of the limbs or reducing the tension of the so-called sympathetic nervous system. In addition(as you mentioned) Propranolol limits the conversion of thyroxine (T4), which is a storehouse of thyroid hormones, to the much more biologically active triiodothyronine (T3), which helps even more in controlling the symptoms of decompensated hyperthyroidism. According to scientific sources: "Although in most cases chronic lymphocytic thyroiditis leads to hypothyroidism, occasionally hyperthyroidism referred to as Hashitoxicosis develops. Most often it is caused by the coexistence of Hashimoto's disease and Graves' and Basedow's disease." - perhaps this is the case with you. Other sources state that : "inhibition of the conversion of T4 to T3 given as an advantage of propranolol, in most cases has no therapeutic significance." - it can therefore be concluded that - even if you do not have hyperthyroidism, such inhibition of conversion will not have a significant impact on the treatment. The drugs Euthyrox and Propranolol can be combined with each other. Sorbifer Durules reduces absorption and weakens the effect of Propranolol. Such a combination may cause weaker effects in the treatment of hypertension. If during the use of such a combination the pressure is still high, you should consult a doctor - it may be necessary to modify the dosage of drugs.
