Good morning, I am at 33 tc, pregnancy at risk due to cramps and shortening neck. The doctor took a culture from my cervical canal and it turned out that e.coli bacteria were highly sensitive to antibiotics. I was prescribed the drug Cipropol, however, reading the leaflet and information about this drug that it can not be used during pregnancy. I am terrified not only that I can give birth at any time, but that I will harm the child by taking this drug.

If the doctor, knowing about the pregnancy, decided to treat with a given drug, then I suspect that he considered the treatment of the infection to be necessary also in the context of maintaining a healthy pregnancy. Available data on the administration of ciprofloxacin (a substance in Cirpopol) to pregnant women do not indicate that it causes malformations or is toxic to the foetus and newborn. Animal studies do not indicate direct or indirect harmful effects with respect to reproduction. As a precaution, it is better to avoid the use of ciprofloxacin during pregnancy. However, if the drug is to help treat the infection and thus help maintain a healthy pregnancy, the benefit outweighs the possible risks. If, despite everything, you have doubts or suspect that there may have been a mistake - please contact the doctor who is carrying out the pregnancy.
