Can a gastroenterologist write a prescription for a probiotic?

I would like to ask if a gastroenterologist can issue a prescription for a probiotic? If so, what should such a recipe look like?

In one package there is 8 ml of solution, which is equal to about 160 drops. Drops after opening can be used for 30 days.

Thank you kindly. Could you tell me how many drops of probiotic come out of one bottle?

For @Michalina: The amount of Bifidobacterium breve BR03 contained in one Multilac Control capsule will correspond to 5 drops of Symbiosys Bifibaby. The preparation can be used as long as it was recommended to use Multilac Control capsules.

I would also like to ask, if I would like to continue taking a probiotic under the name Symbiosys bifibaby drops, in what dose and how many times a day would I have to take it (how many times a day and how many drops?)? How long can he take this probiotic?

To @Michalina: Since there are no means in pharmacy sales containing only these two strains of probiotic bacteria - Bifidobactetium longum and B.breve, it will not be possible to create such a supplement in a pharmacy. A good source of Bifidobacterium breve bacteria can be a supplement: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/104687/symbiosys-bifibaby-krople/apteki?pvid=254650#internetowe Bifidobactetium longum is always available in the company of Lactobacillus strains. There is no way to isolate the B.longum strain itself from a multi-ingredient supplement. We have also proposed several alternative solutions here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/opinie-i-pytania/56640/multilac-czy-w-aptece-mozna-kupic-probiotyk-zawierajacy-saccharomyces-boulardii

Thank you for your reply. The idea to make a probiotic arose due to the fact that I can not buy a Multilac Control probiotic in a pharmacy. I had very advanced SIBO in the form of constipation, in addition to intestinal dysbiosis. In addition, I struggle with several autoimmune diseases. I cannot take any oral probiotics with the Lactobacilus strain. During the SIBO treatment, I took Enterol. After the end of treatment, the doctor prescribed a probiotic with a strain of Bifidobacterium infantis under the name Alflorex. However, I could take this probiotic for a certain period of time. After this time, the doctor said that now I need to stop Alflorex and I should now take the probiotic Multilac Control. Unfortunately, I can not buy it in any pharmacy either stationary or online. Due to the disturbance of the bacterial flora, I have to continue taking a probiotic with a strain of Bibidobacterim breve or Bifidobacterium longum. Unfortunately, I can not buy such a probiotic. Therefore, I have a question whether a gastroenterologist could write a prescription for a probiotic made with a strain of Bifidobacterium breve or Bifidobacterium longum? Is it even possible to make such a probiotic with this strain? If so, what would be the cost of such a probiotic?

Theoretically, it is possible to prepare - scatter a prescription drug with probiotic bacteria at the request of a doctor - on prescription. However, there is no specific formula of the prescription on the basis of which the gastroenterologist could model himself by implementing such recommendations. In practice, I have not met with a prescription for a drug made with a probiotic. Probiotics are available in pharmacies in the form of ready-made drugs, the technology of their production allows, for example, to create capsules whose release content is in a specific section of the digestive tract, e.g. in the intestines. There are also products that require special storage conditions or are available in the form of sachets to dissolve, e.g. in yogurt or fruit juice. I also do not find information that probiotic bacteria are included in the list of pharmaceutical raw materials for the pharmacy recipe. You can also read more about the drugs made here: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/leki-recepturowe-robione-w-aptece If the idea to create a probiotic in a pharmacy arose out of concern about the effectiveness of dietary supplements available in the pharmacy, it may be worth using ready-made products that my drug status, e.g. https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/27293/enterol-250-kapsulki/apteki?pvid=70512#internetowe https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/42279/lakcid-proszek-do-wytworzenia-zawiesiny/apteki?pvid=14942#internetowe I also encourage you to read the content of our articles: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/probiotyki-czy-warto-stosowac-leki-oslonowe https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/czym-roznia-sie-leki-od-suplementow

User questions and answers that provide feedback about products are not verified for the purchase or use of the product. Companies often order anonymous comments to form positive opinions about their products, or negative ones about competitors. Therefore, be guided by the information in the pharmacists' responses in the first place.
