Urine culture is performed to detect the presence of microorganisms, including fungi and bacteria, in the patient's urine, mainly such as Escherichia Coli, Proteus, Klebsiella or Enterococcus. The diagnosis of chlamydia and gonorrhea is usually made from a swab taken from the infected area (cervix, urethra, penis, anus or throat). Urine tests are performed only in specialized laboratories using highly sensitive methods using molecular techniques.
