Good morning. Could any of you explain to me what is the difference between xanax and xanax sr? I know that the latter is about prolonged release, but it's about how long each of them stays in the body and how long each of them has a calming effect. Thank you.

The maximum plasma concentration of Xanax after oral administration is reached after 1-2 hours. The absorption of alprazolam after administration of Xanax SR is slower and the maximum plasma concentration of alprazolam is approximately half that of the same dose of Xanax and is reached 5-11 hours after administration. The moment of reaching the maximum concentration is not the end of the action of the drug - after this time the concentration decreases until the next dose is taken, or to zero, if this will be the case with the dosage range.
