All drugs available for sale are checked for safety. When a pharmaceutical company places any drug on the market, it must prove that it is safe for patients. Therefore, it conducts so-called clinical trials - first on experimental animals, and then on humans. Whether a drug is safe and effective enough to be on the pharmacy shelf is assessed by the Office for Registration of Medicinal Products, Medical Devices and Biocidal Products. The quality of the drug, i.e. whether it has harmful impurities or bacteria, is also supervised by the Chief Pharmaceutical Inspector. Any drug - including Actifed - may or may not cause side effects. The manufacturer of the drug is obliged to inform the patient about all possible side effects that may be related to the use of his preparation, but this does not mean that everyone will see all of them. The information attached to the drug contains important tips that should be analyzed before its use. Such a benefit-risk assessment should be made by a doctor familiar with the child's medical history. According to the registration, Actifed is intended for use in adults and children from 7 years of age. The doctor - based on his best knowledge and experience - may recommend taking a particular drug outside the registration indications, if he considers that such a practice can be helpful and safe for the patient.
