Madopar contains a different active ingredient than amantadine and does not work the same. Madopar is a combination medicine containing two active substances: levodopa and benserazide. Levodopa is a precursor of dopamine - it causes the content of this compound in the brain to increase, thanks to which the symptoms of Parkinson's disease are alleviated. Benserazide causes dopamine from levodopa to be released in the brain. Amantadine, on the other hand, also increases the concentration of dopamine, but by intensifying its release in the brain structures (striatum) and by blocking its reuptake by nerve cells.
