Trioxal should only be used during pregnancy if, in the opinion of the doctor, the benefits of the treatment outweigh the possible risks to the baby. The itraconazole contained in Trioxal is included in the L3 category according to Dr. Hale's classification, which is currently one of the leading classifications determining the safety of drugs during breastfeeding. Class L3 includes drugs that have not been tested on nursing women, there are assumptions about some risk of harmful effects on the child, or studies have shown minimal and non-life-threatening side effects in the child. These medicines may only be used if the benefits outweigh the risks. Among the antifungal drugs considered safer, fluconazole is mentioned. It belongs to the L2 category - which includes medicines for which studies carried out on a small number of women did not show an increased risk of side effects in breastfed children and medicines whose risk of harm to the child is small.
