Good morning, I have E.coli bacteria in my urine. I took Augmentin with a probiotic for 14 days. There was a significant improvement but unfortunately after 2 days the problems recurred: fever, frequenturia, burning when urinating... After another few days I did the culture and it is >10^5 CFU/ml of bacteria. The doctor assigned me Xyvelam 500 mg 1 per day for 7 days. Is this a good solution? what else can I do?

The information you provide only indicates that you have tested positive because ≥10 to 5 (i.e. above 100,000) live bacteria of one type have been grown in 1 ml of urine. Your entry also shows that an antibiotic from the penicillin group turned out to be ineffective. If a urine culture was performed, then perhaps it was also used to determine the species and make an antibiogram - to determine the sensitivity of bacteria to individual antibiotics. Such a solution would be the most rational, because on its basis it is possible to choose a drug that is effective against the infection from which you suffer. I do not know if the doctor ordered an antibiogram, so I cannot confirm that Xyvelam is actually the optimal solution for your situation. I can only inform you that the drug has indications of urinary tract infections, including kidneys or bladder. m. Xyvelam contains levofloxacin, which belongs to quinolone antibiotics. So it's a different group than the antibiotic you took in the beginning.
