Good morning! Is it possible to buy Capecitabine (capecitabine) on prescription in Poland? Because they supposedly produce it in Europe but recently do not sell in Poland? Thank you!

In Poland, many drugs with capecitabine are registered, but the availability in open pharmacies is low. Very few facilities integrated with GdziePoLek have capecitabine in stock under the trade name Xeloda: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/substancje/kapecytabina https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/84585/xeloda-tabletki-powlekane/apteki/w-polsce This is primarily due to the fact that capecitabine as a drug used in chemotherapy is made available free of charge to patients qualified for such treatment, under the care of appropriate hospital treatment cells. Free of charge (according to the list of reimbursed drugs for January 2022) are available drugs such as Capecytabine Accord 150 mg, 300 mg and 500 mg, Capecytabine Glenmark 150 mg and 500 mg, Ecansya 150 mg and 500 mg or Xeloda 500 mg. Patients receiving oncological treatment in hospitals are therefore not looking for such therapies in open pharmacies, which does not mean that these drugs are completely unavailable in this pathway. If you have a prescription for a specific product and a dose of capecitabine, I suggest asking the selected pharmacy to check the possibility of ordering it in a wholesaler.
