Can Doxycyclinum TZF capsules be opened?

Good morning. I received Doxycyclinum TZF hard capsules from my doctor. I have a problem with swallowing them. Can I pour out the contents and dissolve in water? If I dissolve the contents of the capsule, will nothing happen to me? Thank you for your reply.

Doxycyclinum TZF capsules should not be opened. According to the Summary of Product Characteristics, capsules should be taken whole with a glass of water. The contents of the capsule may irritate the mucous membrane of the throat or intestines, so to prevent this, it is recommended to take it in a sitting or standing position, at least 30 minutes before bedtime. If the contents of the capsule are dissolved, the probability of causing irritation increases. If you have trouble swallowing the capsule, ask your doctor to prescribe a medicine containing doxycycline in the form of special tablets for oral suspension. An example of such a product is Unidox Solutab - containing the same dose of doxycycline, equal to 100 mg: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/produkty/80663/unidox-solutab-tabletki/ulotka/71866 More about how to use tablets and capsules, you can read in the text: https://www.gdziepolek.pl/artykuly/jak-stosowac-tabletki-i-kapsulki
