Zoloft should not be discontinued suddenly. After discontinuation of treatment, side effects (withdrawal symptoms) - e.g. dizziness, numbness, sleep disturbances, agitation or anxiety, headache, nausea, vomiting and muscle tremors - occur, especially if treatment is stopped suddenly. According to the manufacturer: "The patient absolutely cannot stop Zoloft on his own. Your doctor should gradually reduce your dose of Zoloft over several weeks until you stop taking it."
