Can computed tomography of the abdominal cavity replace gastroscopy?

Good morning. I suffer from stomach ailments (heartburn, retreat of gastric contents into the esophagus, pain in the epigastrium). I know that the main method of diagnosis in this direction is gastroscopy, which, however, is not a pleasant examination. Therefore, can computed tomography of the abdominal cavity (with or without contrast) be as useful in the diagnosis of, for example, stomach ulcers as gastroscopy? Greetings and thank you in advance for your reply.

I encourage you to consult a doctor who will recommend the appropriate diagnostic procedure in your case. Gastroscopy and tomography have different diagnostic and therapeutic indications. These are not "interchangeable" studies. Gastroscopic examination allows, m.in, to visualize the organs viewed, as well as, for example, to take sections of the epithelium of the gastrointestinal tract for histopathological examinations. On the other hand, computed tomography of the abdominal cavity consists in taking a series of X-rays imaging the examined area. The use of contrast improves the visibility of the imaged structures. Full information about the planned diagnostic procedures will be provided by your doctor at a medical visit.
