Why are pressure medications ineffective?

After 3 weeks of taking 1/2 tablet of Prestilol 5 +5, I did not experience a decrease in pressure, on the contrary, even its increase. Can this be explained somehow? I read that this drug cannot be the first drug used to reduce hypertension, as was the case in my case.

Indeed, it is usual to use complex antihypertensive drugs, an example of which is the medicinal product Prestilol, when therapy with a single blood pressure lowering drug turns out to be ineffective. However, this does not mean that in justified cases the use of Prestilol at the beginning of antihypertensive therapy is a mistake. What is important, however, is the effect of treatment. If after 3 weeks the effect of treatment in the form of a decrease in pressure values is not observed, this is a sign that the treatment needs to be modified due to the incorrectly selected drug or its dosage.
