Drinking an occasional glass of wine or one beer should not be associated with great consequences, but I would not recommend drinking alcohol so that the therapy is fully effective and safe. Isotretinoin is metabolized in the liver by a number of enzymes associated with cytochrome P450. Alcohol is metabolized along the same metabolic pathway. The effect of combining alcohol during Izotek therapy may therefore be a weakening of its effect and a toxic effect on the liver. Often there are also gastrointestinal disorders.
