Lek Depo-Provera stosowany w celu zapobiegania ciąży, w przypadku podania w 9 dniu cyklu, osiąga pełne działanie antykoncepcyjne po 7 dniach od wstrzyknięcia. Przez tydzień od podania zastrzyku należy stosować dodatkową mechaniczną formę antykoncepcji, np. prezerwatywy.
